As part of a larger effort to increase literacy and educational attainment, for adults as well as children, most AVANCE-El Paso sites also offer adult ESL and GED classes and extended early education activities for their children.

English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes are available for parents who attend the Parent-Child Education Program or have already graduated from the program. ESL classes focus on helping those parents with a minimal command of English develop the ability to communicate effectively enabling them to gain employment or further their education. Classes are held at multiple locations throughout the network of AVANCE classrooms. Computer literacy is an additional component built into the program.
General Education Diploma (GED) classes aim to prepare parents without a high school diploma to take the tests in order to obtain their GED. These classes are held at eight of our schools. Additional classroom time is also made available for the children of these students.
