AVANCE, Inc. was established in 1973 in San Antonio, Texas. In 1995, the Texas State Legislature appropriated $1,000,000 for the expansion and replication of the Avance, Inc. Family Support and Education Program to four communities: Dallas, El Paso, Laredo, and Corpus Christi.

As a result, AVANCE - El Paso was established in 1997 in the El Paso community. In our 15 year history, AVANCE - El Paso has expanded from serving 225 parents and children at one site with 7 staff and a budget of $250,000 to serving 2,000 parents at 21 sites across El Paso County.

Key Accomplishments
Despite 97% of AVANCE students being economically disadvantaged, 60% lacking a high school education, and more than 80% speaking only Spanish, AVANCE children are outranking their peers both across the region and the State of Texas as indicated by an independent longitudinal study that tracked AVANCE children who graduated from the program from 1998 to 2012. The analysis compared their performances on standardized tests with those students who had not been involved with the program. The report indicated that AVANCE children score higher on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) than other children throughout the region.
Additionally, AVANCE, Inc. has been recently named one of the top-performing nonprofit organizations in the United States by The Social Impact 100.
